Carlos Anton Rules Hill Climb

Triple hillclimb champion Carlos Anton paved the way for his Mark Young-Yokohama team to dominate three of the six divisions in the second leg of the 2010 Hillclimb Championship held recently.

Anton clocked a total time of 2:24.48 seconds for the two special stages held in Pias and Baksil, La Union, that saw a record number of 61 racers take part.

Anton’s Hornitex-Total teammates Alfie Concepcion and Frankie Domingo also scored decisive victories with times of 2:33.64 and 2:44.41, respectively, in Group 4 and Group 2 to further boost their Championship bids.

Anton and Domingo, back-to-back winners in the two legs held so far this year, led their respective divisions while Concepcion finished second in the first leg to Japanese driver Harohito Ono.

“We are very happy with the team’s results and all the preparations paid off,” Anton said after clearing the two stages.

Mark Thoman was second to Anton in Group 5 with a time of 2:27.34.

In the group 3 Division round 1 winner Ramsey Kairuz ( 2:41.41) was beaten by last years Group 1 champion Gary Loy (2:40.46) while Adrianne Matulac (2:43.41) rounded up the top three.

Mark Quinto led the group S-Division with a time of 2:48.45 followed by Gerard Tan and Nic Pacion. Group 1 was won by Mark Laguna and the Historic class was won by Mark Herrera.

The third round of the Championship and last in Northern Luzon for the year will be on June 20 in La Union.
